Student Activities Camaraderie at ELSA Orientation 2012 The English Language Student Association (ELSA) held an orientation camp which lasted for 3 days and 2 nights in August 2012 and then a follow-up orientation night in October. During the camp, the new Bachelor of Education (English Language) students were briefed by their mentors about life on campus. They also received information about the various facilities and familiarised themselves with the campus. Participants found the activities at the camp both engaging and challenging. They learnt how to communicate and collaborate with new friends; adapt to new environments; manage time and deal with new challenges which they very much enjoyed. The camp and the orientation night provided opportunities for senior students and freshmen to develop camaraderie which continues to build even after the events. Due to the double cohort, 80 freshmen entered the Bachelor of Arts (Language Studies) programme this year. It was definitely a challenge for us at the Language Studies Student Association (LSSA), as we had to organise two registration days and an extended orientation camp in order to accommodate all the members. Despite the increase in numbers, the 3-day orientation camp at the Fanling campsite in August 2012 was a success with 60 freshmen participating. During the camp, they joined various activities such as city wide hunt, water fight and campfire, and through the process, got to know their peers and their new environment before classes began. Subsequently, an orientation night was held in October, providing a platform for a reunion. LSSA continues to organise meaningful activities throughout the year for our members to stay connected and share experiences.
