Enriched by structuralism, Chinese modern literature and comparative literature, he develops his unique voice in literary historiography and poetics. Nevertheless, the pressing concern for the meaning and social function of literature in the contemporary and everyday world has never subsided in his intellectual pursuit. His recent publications include "Literature as Knowledge? - Literary Criticism, Literary Studies, and Literary Education" (2013), "Discourses on Lyrical China" (2013), and "Modernity of Lyricism: Essays on Chinese Lyrical Tradition" (2014, co-edited with Professor Wang Der-wei David). He is the chief editor of the on-going project "Compendium of Hong Kong Literature". The first series on 1919-1949 of twelve volumes were published in 2014-2016. His reflections on the lyrical tradition of Chinese literature and lyricism have attracted much attention within and beyond the academia. His book "Hong Kong in Its History of Lyricism" (2016) won the 10th Hong Kong Book Prize in 2017 and was selected as one of the Top Ten Books (non-fiction) of 2016 by "Yazhou Zhoukan" (Asia Weekly). In 2016, Professor Chan was awarded the Artist of the Year (Arts Criticism) by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Professor Chan has been Visiting Professor of the University of Alberta and Charles University in Prague, and Visiting Scholar of Harvard University, Columbia University and Tokyo University, among many others in Mainland China and Taiwan. He is on the editorial board or advisory committee of several international journals, including "Journal of Chinese Studies" (National Taiwan Normal University, Taipei), "Tsing Hua Journal of Chinese Literature" (Hsin-chu) and "Chinese Modern Literature" (Taipei). 陳國球教授從傳統詩學出發，經過現代中國文學、比較文學及結構 主義的洗禮，建立了獨特的文學詩/史觀，然而終極關懷始終是文學的 大用。陳教授近年著作包括《文學如何成為知識？—文學批評、文學 研究與文學教育》（2013）、《抒情中國論》（2013），以及《抒情之現代 性：「抒情傳統」論述與中國文學研究》（與王德威教授合編，2014）等 等。他又擔任《香港文學大系》總主編，第一輯（1919-1949）共十二 卷已經在2014至2016年陸續出版。陳教授對中國文學的抒情傳統研究 在學院內外均引起迴響，其著作《香港的抒情史》（2016）分別在2017 年第十屆「香港書獎」中獲獎及獲選為《亞洲週刊》2016年十大好書 （非小說類）之一。同年，陳教授榮獲香港藝術發展局頒發「藝術家年 獎」（藝術評論）。陳教授曾擔任加拿大阿爾伯塔大學、捷克布拉格查 理大學訪問教授；哈佛大學、哥倫比亞大學、東京大學及多間中國和 台灣的大學的訪問學人。他也是多份國際學術期刊的編委和顧問 成員，包括《國文學報》、《清華中文學報》、《中國現代文學》等等。 9 | Distinguished Scholars 傑出學者
