As part of our commitment to nurturing socially responsible executives, the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Executive Management Programme [BSc(EM)] organized a meaningful community service project in celebration of the Tuen Ng Festival with the villagers at the Lok Sin Village in May 2025. This initiative provided students with a valuable opportunity to engage with underprivileged groups and encourage them to contribute positively to their communities.
During the event, our students collaborated with the non-profit organization, Lok Sin Tong, to organize interactive activities that brought joy and cultural awareness to villagers. Participants enjoyed traditional Tuen Ng celebrations, such as making sachets and colourful bracelets, which symbolized warding off evil and praying for good fortune. Additionally, villagers participated in health exercises led by the student representatives to raise their awareness of healthy living. The students also conveyed blessings to villagers by distributing rice dumplings and gift packs, fostering community bonding and shared celebration. These activities not only celebrated a meaningful cultural festival with villagers but also fostered empathy, teamwork, and leadership among our students.
This community service project aligns with our programme’s goal to develop well-rounded leaders who are socially conscious and strive to maintain high standards of social responsibility in enacting executive management competencies. Engagement in community service exposes students to real-world social issues, such as poverty, inequality, and limited access to resources, thereby enhancing their understanding of the challenges faced by underprivileged groups. It is believed that this outside-classroom learning experience can help students cultivate significant values such as respect, empathy and social equity, fostering responsible citizenship and encouraging them to contribute meaningfully to society both during and after their university years.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Wheelock Properties (Hong Kong) Limited and Lok Sin Tong for offering our students this unique opportunity to engage with villagers and contribute to the community.
