Unlocking ESG Value: Insights from visiting the Mills and engaging with the practitioners

2026-04-14

To connect ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) concepts with practical applications, our students of the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Executive Management Programme [BSC(EM)] participated in a field visit combined with expert sharing to deepen their understanding of ESG and better prepare them for real-world challenges.

Led by the Internship Coordinator, Mr Martin Lam, the students visited the MILLS, an exemplar renowned for its innovative approaches to collaborating with its tenants to maintain sustainability and create shared value in our community. Immersing themselves in the guided tour and engaging directly with the docents, students observed firsthand the importance and value of maintaining high standards of social responsibility in daily business operations. They also explored the challenges and opportunities of implementing various ESG initiatives, such as increasing the adoption of renewable energy, rewarding tenants for carbon emission reductions, preserving historical elements during renovations, and promoting pet-friendly practices among tenants and customers, in a well-established enterprise through on-site observations.

Building on their initial insights from the field visit on 16 March 2026, students subsequently attended an expert sharing session conducted by the representatives of Nan Fung Group on 20 March 2026. The practitioners shared insights and effective strategies that responsible management fosters business prosperity while simultaneously generating social impact and safeguarding our environmental resources. The learning experience not only deepened students’ understanding of ESG but also equipped them with practical skills vital for their future roles as responsible executives.

We thanked Nan Fung Group for their invaluable contributions in bridging the theoretical concepts with practical applications.
