Dr Percy Kwok’s presentation of a working paper on conceptualizing game-based knowledge transfer between K-12 students and elderly at the EdUHK-THU Education Forum

2025-06-27

At the EdUHK-THU Education Forum entitled ‘Future Education and Learning’ on 14 June 2025, Dr. Percy Kwok (Dept. of Education Policy and Leadership) presented a paper on conceptualizing game-based knowledge transfer between 1,080 K-12 students (in some primary, secondary and special schools) and some elderly learners living at the elderly homes in Hong Kong to co-create AI singer animations in innovative collaborative learning communities. A scrutiny of interview and observational data revealed that participating K-12 students, to large extent, transferred some socio-technical AI skills to the elderly and the elderly to some extent, shared some socio-artistic knowledge about Cantonese drama and popular songs in their generations to the students. Meantime, participating students exhibited a combination of distributive, collaborative (instructional), emotional leadership and co-apprenticeship models in the training workshops. Consequently, Dr Kwok addressed unprecedented challenges and highlighted the potential of developing social robots, transdisciplinary approaches in futurist curricula, and AI-generated learning theories and pedagogy by connecting the tentative results with international research literature.
