Understanding French Cultural Diversity through History, Art, and Values: A Study Tour in France

2026-07-10

A group of 22 students and teachers participated in an 11-day educational journey to France from 4–14 June 2026 as part of the course “Understanding French Cultural Diversity through History, Art, and Values.” France, as a central hub in Western Europe, has undergone thousands of years of migration, linguistic evolution, and cultural transformation. The course aimed to explore European multiculturalism through the lens of 21st-century French society, with a focus on its expression through art and culture. Students visited a range of artistic and architectural heritage sites in Paris, as well as locations reflecting Roman history, including the Palais des Papes in Avignon and sites in Marseille. A key highlight was the visit to the Latin Quarter and Sorbonne Université (SU), which serves as a microcosm of European multiculturalism. Through the campus visit and a presentation by an SU academic, students gained insights into the development of intercultural competence and linguistic proficiency. The experience also supported their intellectual growth and fostered a deeper appreciation of the enduring values of Liberté, Égalité, and Fraternité.
