'OCE1006 CLOC Study Tour Abroad: The Complexities of Development, Inequality, and Environmental Conversation in Post-apartheid South Africa' - July 2026

We are excited to announce that the Department of Education Policy and Leadership (EPL) will organize a 13-day CLOC study tour to South Africa during summer vacation 2026. The tour, themed 'The Complexities of Development, Inequality, and Environmental Conversation in Post-apartheid South Africa', will take place from 15 - 27 July 2026.

Key Details:

  • Date: 15 - 27 July 2026
  • Tour fee: HKD$ 25,660 (including flight, accomondation, transport, meals, and entrance fees) 
    • GLEF subsidy: HKD$ 10,000 maxiumum for eligible undergraduate students & HKD$ 5,000 maximum for HD (ECE) students
  • Target: Open to all UGC-funded undergraduate students and HD ECE students. 
  • Application deadline: 14 December 2025
  • Information session: 4 December 2025, 12:30 - 14:30 at D2-LP-01


Highlights of the tour:
Students are expected to gain critical insights into the interconnectedness of development and conservation, preparing them to contribute thoughtfully to global discussions on these pressing issues. The tour has the following aims:

  • To explore the historical and socio-economic significance of Cape Town, enabling students to understand how the legacies of apartheid influence contemporary issues of inequality and environmental degradation.
  • To engage students in thematic discussions and site visits that highlight sustainable development practices, encouraging them to rethink integrated approaches that balance socio-economic needs with environmental conservation.
