Prof Kenneth Sin Kuen-fung

Speaker's Biography
Professor Kenneth Sin Kuen-fung is the Executive Director of the Institute of Special Needs and Inclusive Education at The Education University of Hong Kong. A pioneer in advancing inclusive education, he introduced in-service teacher training for Hong Kong and Macau, significantly strengthening professional practice in the region. He also founded the Jockey Club Youth Academy for SEN, which provides lifelong learning opportunities for school leavers with SEN, ensuring they continue to thrive within a university environment. Beyond academia, Professor Sin serves as an executive member, committee member, or chair in numerous NGOs dedicated to supporting children with SEN, as well as individuals with visual and hearing impairments, intellectual disabilities, autism, and behavioral challenges. His active engagement in community initiatives has established him as a leading scholar in inclusive education across China. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he was awarded the Medal of Honor by the Hong Kong SAR.

Early childhood education is pivotal in establishing the foundation for lifelong learning and social development. Embedding inclusive practices during these formative years ensures equitable opportunities for children of diverse abilities and backgrounds. Drawing on the funded project SuSEN at The Education University of Hong Kong, Professor Kenneth Sin highlights the importance of cultivating inclusive environments that foster participation, belonging, and individualized support for young learners with special educational needs. Effective strategies include teacher training in inclusive pedagogy, active family engagement, curriculum adaptation, and the integration of assistive technologies to enhance accessibility. Contextual and global perspectives further underscore the necessity of robust policy frameworks, community partnerships, and sustained professional development to strengthen inclusive practices. Ultimately, advancing inclusive early childhood education nurtures empathy, resilience, and collaboration among all children, contributing to the creation of equitable societies where diversity is embraced and every child is empowered to reach their full potential. |
