Abstract

For many Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is a “master key” to help achieve important matters such as Peace Building, Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development in the modern world. In Mainland China, sustainable development (SD) is a very important part of the national development strategy, to cope with serious challenges being faced concerning environment, economy, society and culture, during an era of globalisation and rapid change. With the rapid development of the economy, TVET has become increasingly important in China’s education system. However, TVET for SD is still a new topic and rarely mentioned in Mainland China. The author and his team initiated an innovative research project on Developing Innovative Approaches in Education for Sustainable Development: Curriculum Reform in TVET China, in partnership with Griffith University (Australia) and 10 Chinese TVET institutes, under the support of UNESCO-UNEVOC, from July 2008 to Dec. 2009. The presentation explains the research project in detail.
