Enquiry 50 influential education policymakers, researchers and practitioners, and members of the education and development communities, drawn locally and internationally, have indicated their intention to participate in the Symposium. There were also limited seats available for student observers. The Symposium provided an excellent opportunity for participants to exchange ideas and experience with regard to: - Reviewing findings from recent and leading policy, practice and research on lifelong learning, with particular reference to effective approaches to poverty alleviation and sustainable development;
- Discussing current issues, concerns and prospects concerning lifelong learning policy making, practice, research and development, internationally and with particular reference to the Asia-Pacific region;
- Identifying research and development priorities in lifelong learning from the perspective of different countries and education development and UN agencies; and exploring possibilities for collaborative activities.

Developing a Research Agenda for Asia-Pacific Sub-themes: Skills development for employability (TVET) and lifelong learning Positive education for the elderly as part of lifelong learning Lifelong learning and educational disadvantage, with particular reference to the dimensions of socio-economic status, ethnicity and minority group status, gender, regional location, disability, and children at-risk including migrant workers’ children.
