Dr Alex Lap-kwan LAM from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction recently published new research in TESOL Quarterly on integrating Generative AI into primary English classrooms, which has also been prominently featured on EdPost by HKEdCity.
Dr Lam’s paper, “Supporting Young Foreign Language Learners With Image Generative AI in Digital Multimodal Composing,” explores how 8- to 9-year-old students can use image-based AI to bring their imaginations to life in primary English writing classrooms.
Crucially, the research provides frontline primary school English teachers with a concrete pedagogical framework for using GenAI tools with young learners. It equips teachers with actionable classroom strategies, ensuring the technology serves to deepen meaningful language learning rather than simply replacing student effort.
