Congratulations to Dr PEI Leisi on Securing NSFC Young Scientists Fund 2026

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) warmly congratulates Dr PEI Leisi, Assistant Professor of the Department, on receiving funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Young Scientists Fund (Category C) 2026. This achievement reflects the significance and quality of her research and represents another important research success for the Department.

 

Dr Pei was awarded funding for her project entitled “Research on the Mechanism of Human-GenAI Interaction Modalities on Children’s Mathematics Learning Behaviors and Cognitive Neural Dynamics,” which will be conducted from January 2027 to December 2029. The project was funded under the field of Educational Information Science and Technology, highlighting its interdisciplinary nature and relevance to contemporary educational challenges.

 

The research explores how generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) can better support children’s mathematics learning in K-12 education. Specifically, the project investigates how different forms of human-AI interaction influence children’s learning behaviours, learning processes, and cognitive development. By bringing together perspectives from educational technology, learning sciences, artificial intelligence, and cognitive research, the study aims to deepen understanding of how AI can be designed and used to enhance learning experiences for young learners.

 

As AI technologies continue to transform educational environments worldwide, the project addresses timely questions about how children engage with AI-powered tools and how such interactions can be tailored to support meaningful learning. The findings are expected to generate valuable insights for researchers, educators, and developers, contributing to the creation of more effective and developmentally appropriate AI-supported learning environments.
