Mr. Qibang SU Awarded Competitive Outreach Scholarship for Academic Visit at UBC

2026-06-22

During 18-29 May 2026, Mr. Qibang Su (Bang), a second-year Doctor of Education (EdD) Candidate in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), visited the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada. Supported by a competitive outreach scholarship (HK$14,000) awarded by the Graduate School, the academic visit programme provided doctoral students with opportunities to engage in advanced academic training and international scholarly exchange.

The 10-day programme comprised an 8-day academic writing course and a 2-day international graduate research symposium. During the doctoral-level academic writing course, led by Dr. George E. K. Whitehead of UBC, participants explored key issues in preparing international journal manuscripts, communicating with editors and reviewers, and responding to peer-review feedback. The course also fostered interdisciplinary dialogue among doctoral students from different departments and research areas at EdUHK.

As a part of the International Graduate Student Research Symposium, jointly organized by the Faculty of Education at UBC and EdUHK, Bang served as both a presenter and session chair. His oral presentation examined recent developments in citizenship education in Hong Kong and highlighted emerging innovations in the field. Drawing on themes closely related to his doctoral research, supervised by Dr. Zhenzhou Zhao,  the presentation sparked valuable discussions with researchers in various career stages from both UBC and EdUHK.

As pioneers in curriculum studies and educational research, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and EdUHK continue to support doctoral students in participating in overseas visits and conferences. In addition, the supportive doctoral supervision teams always encourage students to secure competitive funding and resources within and beyond EdUHK to expand their academic opportunities.
