Teacher Entrepreneurialism
What should you know about
teacher entrepreneurialism?
Transforming school leadership
The word ‘leader’ is commonly used to describe those in mid to high level positions in a hierarchically
structured organisation. The main difference between a manager and a leader is that managers
maintain the stability and predictability of the organisation, while leaders tend to change or improve
its orientations. A leader has been likened to the accelerator in an organisation who performs
planning, motivating, and consultation throughout the change process. Leadership behaviour,
therefore, is a key factor in framing and implementing change (Fullan, 1996; Hall & Hord, 2011).
The Teacher Entrepreneurialism Theory is a model developed by Maxwell Ho (2020). It describes
six core entrepreneurial behaviours and qualities essential to leaders in general, and the further
qualities teachers as edupreneurs need in those areas–

realisation of it.
Competence, Character and Care are also key core qualities of a great leader. These qualities
comprise natural organic forces which leaders employ to connect with their teams, understand
important issues and lead innovation (Chung, 2020). If all team members, including the leader
and followers, exercise Competence, Character and Care, significant errors can be reduced,
and more innovative initiatives can be actualised.
