Symposia and Workshops

On 12 December 2017,

Dr. Tamara conducted a “Decolonizing Pedagogies Workshop” organized by the International Institute for Higher Education Research and Capacity Building and the Center for Comparative and Global Education in collaboration with Loyola Marymount University, New Delhi, India. Dedicated to globalizing indigenous knowledge of innovative and authentic instructional methods, the workshop attracted over 70 faculty members from international universities.

On 26 September 2017,

the PI Dr. Tamara Savelyeva was invited to give a presentation titled Globally Innovative Curriculum, Practices and Formation of Sustainability-minded Students in Hong Kong” in the 2nd International Conference on Comparative Education with the theme “Understanding the Landscape of High Performing Education System: Antecedence, Salience and Congruence”; organized by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Regional Centre for Innovation Technology (SEAMEO-INNOTECH) in Quezon City, Philippines.

During the same day, the PI was invited to conduct a workshop with the topic “Developing Sustainable Learning Environment in Education” for the 2017 Knowledge Exchange Lecture Series in University of Santo Tomas, Philippines. More than 30 local school leaders and teachers attended the workshop in which they were enthusiastically joined various activities e.g. theme-based discussions and sharing among peers, etc.

Secondary school teams which participate in the 8th ESD Learning Program Sustainable Environment program, organized by the UNESCO Hong Kong Association, have presented their projects in Hong Kong Science Park to a team of judges. Directed by Dr. Tamara Savelyeva, the 5-month integrated co-curricular group project learning programme includes workshops, study visits and assessment. There are five aspects covered in the programme, namely "Built Environment and Placemaking", "Sustainable Agriculture", "Sustainable Tourism", "Mental & Behavioural Health" and "Sustainable Environment". Students are awarded with a certificate upon programme completion. The objectives of the ESD learning programme are to arouse students' awareness of sustainable living practice, encourage changes in behabiour and attitudes of students for a more sustainable future.

EdUHK students lead a videoconference workshop on Sustainable Food Security with their peers from EARTH University,  Costa Rica, Zamorano University, Honduras, BNU, Beijing, and Tompkins Cortland Community College, USA

Visit Korean Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET)

On 8 September 2016, Dr Tamara Savelyeva (Assistant Professor of IELL) and Prof Bob Adamson (UNESCO Chairholder in Technical & Vocational Education and Training and Lifelong Learning) visited KRIVET in Sejong, South Korea.

KRIVET is a leading think tank in lifelong skills development. It was established in 1997 to conduct policy research and development in the field of education and employment. It plays a leading role in structuring an integrated system of education and welfare and in providing comprehensive policy suggestions to integrate Vocational Education and Training institutions and the labour market in South Korea.

The two EdUHK representatives were welcomed by Dr Namchul Lee, Director-General of the Centre for Global Cooperation in KRIVET and his colleagues Dr Hea Jun Yoon, Ms C.J. Lee and Ms Noh Se Rim. Discussions focused on current and future collaboration between KRIVET and EdUHK.

Dr Savelyeva then filmed an interview with Dr Lee about the work of the research institute, as part of the IELL- UNESCO Chair research project “Success factors of vocational education policies in Korea: Building partnerships".

Sustainability consciousness of Hong Kong secondary school graduates study

The research crew of the Sustainability consciousness of Hong Kong secondary school graduates study led by Dr. Tamara Savelyeva orginised a booth and run a workshop for teachers at the 2016 Liberal Studies Teacher Conference, held in EdUHK on 13 June 2016. Launched under support of the Hong Kong Teacher Association and Hong Kong Teacher’s Union, the conference attracted around 400 teachers from Hong Kong schools.

Liberal Studies Sustainable Leadership Workshop 

Dr. Tamara Savelyeva of HKIEd conducted an afternoon masterclass workshop for Hong Kong secondary school educators, in order to share the preliminary findings of the UGC funded project, “Sustainability Consciousness of Secondary School Graduates Study.” During the hands-on workshop, local teachers and principals actively engaged with the transformative and powerful nature of Liberal Studies teaching methods, by learning how to harness its potential to promote sustainable change and nurture critical productivity, specifically in student leadership skills. Through a series of guided tasks, the teachers not only had the opportunity to hone their pedagogical competencies, but also to jointly participate in the Study by exchanging and presenting diverse and dynamic ways, in which to effectively implement the research findings directly into their own Hong Kong classrooms.
