The programme series is a key component of the QEF project. It has several aims: (1) to enhance intercultural competence of professional teachers and school leaders; (2) to engage parents of immigrant and ethnic minority children in school learning; (3) to increase the participants’ awareness in social services and facilities; and (4) to promote culturally responsive collaboration among parents, school leaders, and professionals across social sectors (see Table 1 for details). In addition, two of our collaborators, Christian Action and Hong Kong Unison, will be joining us to share their expertise and support services to Chinese immigrants and ethnic minorities in Hong Kong.
A total of 20 schools are joining in the Programme, totalling over 170 participants, including 39 teachers, 62 parents and 74 children with diverse culturally backgrounds. In the afternoon is the second part of the Programme, which is about community engagement, with more than 100 parents and children participants. The engagement includes a visit to Legislative Council and Hong Kong Central Library. The former allows participants to understand the basic values and principles of judicial independence, whereas the latter provides attendees information and methods of seeking materials that foster community learning and knowledge attainment. It is a great opportunity to allow participants to explore and elevate awareness towards local civic facilities. |
