Field Experience Support on Science for G.S./Science Student-Teachers

I am glad to tell you that we are going to launch a website called "Field Experience Support on Science" (or FESS) at the Department of Science. This is an Institute-funded project (called "Developing online support for the students in teaching science topics during the field experience period") in which videos and photos on some exemplary teaching practices of HKIEd student-teachers will be made available (together with the lesson plans, scheme of work and various teaching materials etc.) on our Institute's Intranet website for improving the classroom teaching skills of our General Studies or Science student-teachers through reflection, lesson analysis and peer discussion. For gaining the maximal benefit from this project, you are strongly encouraged to share your feeling and Teaching Practice experience with other fellow student-teachers by:-

1.

posting the self-reflection of your lesson (as observed or assigned by our Science TP Supervisor) in the Discussion Forum (under the Communication Section) of the FESS website which is located at
           http://www.ied.edu.hk/fess
There is no need to identify yourself - you can use a nickname but you need to attach a copy of your message in your TP file. Each self-reflection should be around 200 to 400 words (in Chinese or English) and there must be a brief description on the topic and the class of students (level, class size and place of teaching, i.e. in laboratory or classroom etc.).

2.

suggesting solutions and sending messages for encouragement to other fellow students who have identified problems or encountered difficulties in their teaching practice.

3.

uploading your selected lesson plan, scheme of work and teaching resources like PowerPoint, worksheet files, photos and videos etc. to our FESS website for sharing with other students.

4.

participating in the real-time video or audio conferences of which the exact time of some scheduled events will shortly be announced in the FESS website.

Through this FESS website, your TP supervisors and other fellow students may give you some feedback or advice with the hope to solve your particular problems or to improve your teaching skills. Should you have any queries about using the FESS website, please feel free to contact webmaster of this project by phone at 2948 7650 or email: fess@sci.ied.edu.hk. For other field experience related issues, you are welcome to get in contact with the TP supervisors in our Science Department by email or phone call.

Happy Teaching!!!
