17/2/2011 After assessed by the Proposal Review Committee, the awarded student and staff projects of VAECD 2010-2011 were announced ealier. Congratulation to the awarded project groups! This is the second year for the VAECD Project. The Project aims to initiate knowledge transfer through arts by providing funding to the staff and students to engage in education, community development, and professional research activities in visual arts. From the perspective of art education, participants are encouraged to apply their subject knowledge and skills to community services. It is hoped that the project activities will raise the public’s awareness and concern for the under-privileged community groups, and that the community art activities will accelerate social development. The VAECD Project is committed to the promotion of values, culture and heritage of Hong Kong through visual arts activities.
10/1/2011 The Exhibition will showcase remarkable effort made towards combining art, volunteering and educational activities for youth, elderly people and the community by the Institute’s Visual Arts teaching staff and students. Their initiatives in leading students to build up a positive life attitude and bring joy and laughter to the elderly have aroused social concern about the power of art. Featuring the seven community-based art projects carried out in 2009-2010, the display will include design works for the old shops in Central and Sheung Wan, story behind the development of a multimedia and interactive guide for Hong Kong‘s art museums, outcomes of “Artistic Power” Volunteer Youth Scheme and “Install Your Life” art installation activities; also, a special exhibition of ceramic works by the elderly and more. 17/8/2010 Art education activity ─ Install Your Life! 30/7/2010 The student group of the Community service project "Artistic Power" Volunteer Scheme will hold an exhibition to showcase the mural painting with theme “Young people.Positive Energy” created by the teenagers participants and creative works, and a sharing session to promote positive message to public. The exhibition will be held from 1 August to 10 August, 2010. Community services project ─ "Artistic Power" Volunteer Scheme 30/6/2010 To raise public’s concern and support to art and reservation of local culture, the Staff Project, “Art in Old Shops”, and HULU Culture co-organise the “Art in Old Shops Exhibition” to be held from 4 July to 20 July 2010. The exhibition will take place in five old shops in Central and Sheung Wan. 16 innovative pieces of HKIEd students’ mixed media artworks developed from their study on traditional crafts will be showcased. Blending together traditions and innovation, the showcased artworks will craft a new and old Hong Kong story. Art exhibition ─ Art in Old Shops Workshop 28/6/2010 The HKIEd Visual Arts students will collaborate with the school visual arts teachers and study the current Visual Arts subject curriculum, as well as investigating the characteristic of the students, resources and limitation of the participated schools for designing a feasible school-based visual arts curriculum. . The schools involved are Conservative Baptist Lui Ming Choi Primary School, St Charles School, Pooi To Middle School and Kau Yan College. This project not only provides authentic experience to develop and implement a school-based visual arts curriculum, but also enhancing the knowledge of the school visual arts teachers in the new trends of the visual arts education and providing professional teaching support. The teaching units cover curriculum of high school, junior school, primary 1-3 and primary 4-6 and tryout teaching sessions will be taken place in the new academic year. 21/4/2010 The "Artistic Power" Volunteer Scheme hopes to collaborate with the secondary students through a series of training and community services to equip them with knowledge and skills of volunteer work and art creation. Student participants will carry out voluntary service in Breakthrough Youth Village and the service includes the idea of revitalizing the environment with art installations. The aim of the activity is to raise students’ awareness toward betterment of the community and to enjoy the fun of voluntary art work. Community services project ─ "Artistic Power" Volunteer Scheme 26/3/2010 The Staff Project “Art in Old Shops Workshop” will carry out the creative workshop and field study on 2 April. The renowned artist Leung Chi Wo, cross-media artist Au Yeung Ying Chai and documentary photographer Go Man Ching Simon are invited to host the talks and students will have a valuable chance to exchange ideas with different cultural artists. Art exhibition ─ Art in Old Shops Workshop 16/3/2010 "Install Your Life!” is an art installation education activity under the theme “Cherish Your Life, Live Positively”. This project hopes to encourage secondary students to think deeply about the meaning of life and express the message of “Cherish Your Life, Live Positively” through art installations. They will also learn to cope with crisis and life depressions, and develop the values of embracing life and being positive. Art education activity ─ Install Your Life! 4/2/2010 VAECD art/craft enterprise project ─ Capture the“auspicious moment” The student art/craft enterprise project group will launch their first-ever enterprise business from 8 February (Monday) to 13 February (Saturday) at Stall No. 24 in Tin Hau Temple Fung Shui Square, Tai Po. Come along with your family and friends, and capture the “auspicious moment” with the specially created and contemporary New Year characters: Lucky Food, Spring Couplet and Red Packet, and even dressing up and become the “God of Fortune” with the instant photo-taking service! 4/2/2010

Congratulation to the awarded project groups! This is the first year for the VAECD Project to provide funding to the Visual Arts staff and students in arts education and community development activities, and professional research. They are encouraged to proceed from an educational perspective and extend to the community through designing, planning and organizing different community service activities that aim to address issues and improve social livelihood, especially for the under-privileged and elderly. It is also hoped that these activities can help promote social development. The VAECD Project is committed to the mission of preserving the values, culture and heritage of Hong Kong, as well as applying the subject knowledge and skills to the development of Hong Kong society.
