Dr CHENG Wan Suen Vincent
After joining the business education profession for 32 years, I have acquired various business teaching, curriculum development, quality assurance, researching and teacher training knowledge and skills. I taught HKAL Business Studies, HKCEE Commerce, HKDSE Business, Accounting and Financial Studies, Economics and Liberal Studies in government secondary schools for 20 years. I also taught post-secondary, graduate as well as postgraduate courses in Hang Seng School of Commerce, University of East Asia (Macau), Deakin University (Australia), University of New England (Australia), Open University of Hong Kong, University of Hong Kong and Education University of Hong Kong .
Apart from teaching, I am active in education-related work such as being the project leader of the Millennium Entrepreneurship Programme (QEF Project 1999/041), seconded teacher of the Technology Education Section of the Curriculum Development Institute (CDI), accreditation panel member of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) and CDI (Technology Education and Personal, Social & Humanities Education Sections). Furthermore, I was a mentor of full-time Postgraduate Certificate in Education students of HKU and guest lecturer of Postgraduate Diploma in Education students of Education University of Hong Kong when I was teaching in secondary schools. I served as mentor for Peer Support of Teaching Scheme 2018/19 ot LTTC and I am a mentor of the mentorship programme 2019-20 of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA).
To enhance my expertise in business education, I obtained professional accounting qualifications (FCPA Australia and FCPA HK) as well as qualified teacher status in 1980s and 1990s respectively. In March 2019, I become the professional member of the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resources Management ,MIHRM(HK) due to my teaching of human resources management courses and contribution to human resources management professional over the past years. To contribute my expertise in business education to the community, I served as the subject specialist in the areas of Business, Management and Education of the HKCAAVQ from 2006 to 2018.
Before joining the business education profession, I worked in private sector as marketing manager, migration consultant, accountant and auditor in the 1980s. I am a creative and proactive person and always seek opportunity to add value to my professional portfolio. I enjoy building network and I am a team-player which could be shown in my active participation in various committees regarding curriculum development, course evaluation, textbook review and public examinations.
I have joined the Department of Social Sciences as teaching fellow since July 2015. Since June 2017, I have been appointed as the FLASS Ambassador of BLUE Project-Cultivating a Blended Learning Environment in Promoting One Course One Lesson: Pedagogical Use of LMS Moodle, to promote Blended Learning among colleagues. I have also been invited to serve as the textbook reviewer for tertiary business-related courses by Macmillan Education since April 2018. In September, 2018, I obtained the FLASS Teaching Award 2017/18 (http://www.eduhk.hk/flass/en/About-Flass/Teaching-Awards.html). Furthermore, in 2019/20 and 2020/21, I obtained Excellent Field Experience Supervision Awards conferred by SPFEO.
I am eager to share my business teaching as well as career planning experience with my students during classroom teaching and social functions.
