Voluntary carbon offsetting can play an important role in greenhouse gas mitigation when there are persistent barriers to mandatory action. The proposed study will assess consumer demand for voluntary carbon offset (VCO) credits in China via a discrete choice experiment (DCE). We will assess Chinese air travellers’ preferences concerning the purchase of domestic credits to offset their own carbon emissions and explore the use of non-hypothetical choice sets to estimate willingness-to-pay (WTP)
