Managing a PhD Project

In this presentation, Mr. Chong will share his experience as a recently graduated part-time PhD student of the University of York, U.K. He will reflect on his five-year journey of studying a PhD by looking at how he came up with a research design, the first meeting with his supervisor, how to balance work and part-time study, how to manage relationship with his supervisor, how to prepare for the viva, and sitting for the viva. This presentation intends to, hopefully, help you better prepare for a PhD in terms of survival matters.

CHONG King Man, Eric is a Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences, EdUHK. Having developed an interest in citizenship education since he joined the EdUHK in 2000, he served in research and curriculum development positions in the Centre for Citizenship Education (2000-2005), and then Teaching Fellow II (2005-2008), Senior Teaching Fellow (2009-2011), Lecturer (2011 to present). He teaches General Studies, Civic Education, and Liberal Studies in undergraduate, PGDE and in-service teachers’ professional development programmes. His main research interests are citizenship education, Liberal Studies and General Studies. He has been working on school-based development projects with primary and secondary schools on topics of citizenship education.
