Dr. Lorinda Kwan (SEC) talked on primary progressive aphasia on the 23rd April 2020

2020-05-22

Dr. Lorinda Kwan (SEC) talked on primary progressive aphasia, a type of dementia that is featured by a sudden but gradual loss in the abilities to talk, to name, and to understand.   Together with a neurologist of the University of California San Francisco, the webinar hosted by the Hong Kong Association of Speech Therapists, was fully attended by 87 speech therapists on the 23rd April 2020. The goal of this webinar was to fill the gap in clinical knowledge of language impairments due to brain atrophy.  The speakers shared knowledge on what is dementia, and how language impairments of dementia, primary progressive aphasia, can be identified and treated, and how caretakers can support these patients better.  A Cantonese assessment tool of PPA (CLAP) is actually on its way of development by the speakers who are members of an international, multi-centered research team.  If you are interested to know more, please contact Dr. Lorinda Kwan (lkwan@eduhk) for details.
