SEC Collaborates with ACA Equipping Counsellors-in-training with Child Abuse Intervention Strategies

2020-01-11

SEC in association with Against Child Abuse (ACA) organized a certificated workshop on child abuse successfully on 11 January 2020. Over 30 Counsellors-in-training (CITs), who are students of Master of Arts in Educational Counselling [MA(EC)], had attended the one-day workshop. SEC invited Ms. Donna Wong, the Director of ACA, and Mr. Peter Ng, Senior Training Officer of ACA, to conduct the workshop. They had shared a lot of valuable professional experiences with the MA(EC)’s students on how to handle child abuse cases.

Dr. Pat Fung, the Programme Leader of the MA(EC), appreciated that the workshop has raised the CITs’ awareness to suspected child abusing. It has also enhanced their knowledge and techniques to child abuse recognition, risk assessment and intervention. Dr. Fung believed the workshop has deepened CITs’ understanding to the workflow of different professions when child abuse happens.

Hilda Hui, one of the MA(EC) students, said, ‘The most impressive event in the workshop was the stimulation of Multi-disciplinary Case Conference, which required us to role play as different professions to assess on a suspected case and formulate welfare plan for the child. This helps me to think in multiple perspectives and to understand the roles of different parties in the conference and their concerns on the child.’
