The Awardee of the President’s Commendation in Sports 2020/21

DOO Hoi Kem 杜凱琹
Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) Programme, Year 2
The Awardee of the President’s Commendation in Sports 2020/21

Time flies! I have been a full-time athlete for 11 years. Over the past years, I have had the opportunity to participate in a great number of international tournaments and accomplished significant achievements. Table tennis means a lot to me; every match I play helps me better understand - “No arrogance in victory, no despair in defeat”. Sports competitions can be very brutal, there is only one champion. My sports career is filled with ups and downs. When I face setbacks, I always encourage myself with this saying - “Failure is not an option for those who thrive in life”.

It is challenging for me to strike a balance between the intensive table tennis trainings and university study. I would like to take this opportunity to thank for the support and guidance given by all my teachers and administrative staff of EdUHK. I really appreciate the super learning platform provided by the University that broadens my horizon. In the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics Games, I will participate in three events. Getting medals for Hong Kong is definitely my primary goal. I shall spare no effort to bring glory to Hong Kong.

Upon completion of my bachelor degree, I will pursue a master degree. I hope that by integrating the knowledge I have together with sports spirit, I can bring positive energy and the benefits of sports to more young people and give back to the society.

The Education University of Hong Kong considers it vital to encourage students’ active engagement in co-curricular activities so as to build value systems and personalities, broaden horizons and absorb knowledge from alternative and non-traditional sources.  The President’s Commendation Scheme (PCS) was introduced in 2010/11 as a University-level recognition of students’ non-academic achievements.
