Background
With support from the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF), the Career Development Service of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has launched the STEM Internship Scheme for STEM-related subjects' students. The scheme aims to encourage STEM students to gain innovation and technology (I&T)-related work experience and to foster their interest in pursuing a career in I&T.
Requirements / Details of the Internship
- Companies providing internships that contain STEM / I&T elements are welcome to support the scheme. (No teaching position or teaching element will be allowed under this Scheme.)
- The internship must be a non-credit bearing internship.
- The internship period must be at least 4 weeks (28 canlendar days). CDS requires that the internship takes place in 4 to 8 consecutive weeks (not more than 59 consecutive calendar days).
- Both 2024 graduates and non-final year students are eligible to join the scheme.
To join the Scheme
- Fill in the online form HERE and post your vacancies
- Career Development Service (CDS) will review the job details and inform respective employers whether or not the job submitted can be included in the scheme.
- To secure the funding from ITF, before giving an offer to an EdUHK candidate, the employer must inform CDS to double-check if the successful candidate is eligible to be included in the scheme.
- After getting the notification from CDS, the employer can contact the eligible candidate and then sign an employment contract with him/her. The employer is required to submit the signed contract to CDS within 3 working days. The quota will be released to another successful candidate if the signed contract is not received by CDS on time.
Reimbursement Arrangement
- After the completion of the internship, the participating employer has to submit an internship report and supporting documents to CDS.
- Once the above documents are confirmed and approved, CDS will contact the students about the subsidy arrangement. The allowance will be disbursed by CDS.
- Under the scheme, the subsidy is HK$373 per day (i.e. $11,190 / 30 days);
- The first and the last days of an internship should be working days. In case Saturday and/or Sunday are regarded as working day in the employment contract, they can be included in the subsidy calculation.
Important Notes
- Participating employers have to provide Employees' Compensation Insurance and MPF to students during the employment period.
- CDS will evaluate the employer’s company size, learning values of the internship, etc. to determine the quota for each employer. EdUHK holds sole discretion in this decision.
