ABSTRACT
The English Language Education Key Learning Area is an integral part of the school curriculum that aims to provide students with a wide range of learning experiences to enhance their English language proficiency. However, Hong Kong school children in general have low motivation to learn English. One possible reason is that a number of school teachers do not have adequate pedagogical knowledge and skills to teach English, especially grammar and readers, effectively. The aim of the two knowledge transfer projects conducted in 2015-17 was to engage EdUHK student teachers to develop grammar and reader teaching resources for school teachers. A learner-centred approach was adopted to provide learners with ample opportunities for purposeful, integrative and creative use of language. The outcomes of the projects have benefitted not only school teachers but also the prospective teachers who were engaged in the experiential and service learning process.
