Psychology grad becomes international soft skills trainer

2018-11-05

Eric Nesar graduated with a degree in Psychology just a few months ago. Now he travels between Hong Kong, Shanghai and beyond as a soft skills trainer for an international education group.

“Soft skills matter in the modern world. Hard skills can be easily taught while soft skills are more challenging to develop, since they have little to do with knowledge or expertise, but are closely linked with character.  When many people have similar skills, your soft skills will set you apart. The psychology programme at EdUHK helped me become a competent trainer.”

Eric works to enhance the social skills of his students and instill confidence through experiential learning. He conducts play-based workshops and provides them with an interactive debriefing to apply the skills learnt in their daily lives.  He hopes to enable students to be confident leaders in the future.

“My industrial attachment at EdUHK was transformational. Although I felt frustrated sometimes, my lecturer Kammy Lau pushed me to move forward.”

Looking ahead, Eric wants to further explore educational psychology after gaining more teaching experiences.

As Eric’s journey illustrates, we strive to encourage students in everything that they do – from their study to their industrial attachment. By giving our students the skills and support they need to succeed we seek to raise their lives to the NEXT LEVEL.
