Interwrite Smartboard and PRS system with Sanyo Ultra-short focus projector which reduces the hassles of the instructor blocking the projection.
Objectives
The design and set up of the existing classrooms has been used for over 10 years. With the 3-3-4 education system, the Institute has to review its teaching venues to cater the changing needs. This initiative is to carry out a pilot scheme for future re-modelling of classrooms to cater for the new pedagogy of the forthcoming 3-3-4 new education system. The pilot classroom was set up to allow our academics to experience new teaching method and new education technologies.

Scope
- Collect requirements from academics through a task groups consists of representatives from teaching staff, Registry, LTTC, EO and ITS
- Re-design and re-vamp D3-LP-02 with new layouts and new education technologies.
- Collect feedback from users and extract ideas for the future re-modeling of our classrooms.

Schedule
- The new Pilot Classroom is located at D3-LP-02 and has been in use since early Feb 2009.

Design and features
- Flexible layouts
- To provide a more spacious environment to allow flexible modes of learning. The room was chosen to be larger than a standard UGC norm 40-person classroom. This is to allow users to try out different teaching arrangements and for our testing purpose . Therefore please bear in mind that this room is considerable spacious than a normal 40-person classroom on campus and should not be used as a benchmark spatial-wise.
- Movable furniture - all tables/chairs are fitted with wheels which are foldable or stackable.
- Facilitate Collaboration
- Movable furniture to facilitate group discussion
- Users could easily pin up student's works on the wall of the classrooms.
- Folding benches will be provided along side walls for notebooks use with power points.
- Wireless network coverage
- White boards will be fitted on 3 faces to facilitate teaching and group discussion activities.
- Ergonomics and health
- Student chairs will have back support, fabric seat pad and arm rests.
- Projector screen and whiteboard are installed according to the standard.
- Acoustic materials will be fitted to improve acoustic performance.

Education Technologies
- Interwrite Smartboard to enable instructor to do highlighting, write/draw on the screen. Screen could be captured for future use.
- Interwrite PRS engages students to participate more in the class with portable voting devices. Results could be shown on screen real-time.
- Ultra-short focus projector to reduce shadows of the instructor being casted on the screen.
- Dual LCD projectors - one at the front and one at the back
- Ceiling mounted microphones and video camera to capture the class if needed.
- Video conferencing facilities to allow communication with parties on Internet.
- Wireless Network coverage makes it ideal for using notebooks in the class.

Booking and Support
The "Pilot classroom" will be booked and timetabled just like other classrooms. Users could book it through iBooking. For technical support, users could call the "Classroom Support Hotline" at x6529. Demo and training on various equipment will be provided in due course.
