Ms Fendy Yuen Wing-ching, Ms Cheng Wai-ming, Ms Cheung Hiu-lam and Ms Wong Pui-ching, four year-2 students in the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) programme (BHE) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), joined a poster presentation at the US - Hong Kong 2018 Conference “Aging across Time and Contexts”, held at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from 19 to 20 May 2018. The Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) of EdUHK was one of the conference co-organisers.
This was the first opportunity for BHE students to present their research ideas at a conference, which comprised 33 poster presentations by around 22 local and overseas universities/units. The BHE students co-investigated their research projects with HPE academic staff. One project was titled “The Effectiveness of Improving the Problem of Chronic Constipation with the Use of Footrest among Seniors in Hong Kong”, and the other was titled “Difference Health Literacy on adults with/without pain (on neck, shoulder and fingers) upon usage of electronic devices”. The former found that the use of a footrest can improve the condition of chronic constipation among the elderly, and concluded that this application can be recommended to the general public. The latter examined differences in the health literacy level between two groups, one with pain in specific body parts and one without pain. It was suggested that the study could help raise awareness of the value of electronic devices in associated health treatment. Some participating professionals showed great interest in their research, and the BHE students were voted Best Presenter.
