The Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) at The Education University of Hong Kong has been commissioned by the Construction Industry Council to help staff of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction identify their weaknesses, plan self-improvement and apply their skills in the workplace.
The programme will be taken by professionals in the building industry, civil engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering, safety and health, project management and IT. Their students are frontline practitioners in the construction industry.
“This ‘train the trainer’ programme is a win-win for Hong Kong’s construction workforce,” said Dr Sammy Hui King-fai, Assistant Professor of Teaching at C&I. “The programme ensures that learners make the most of their teachers.”
C&I has also led vocational training programmes for government departments such as the Fire Services Department and the Hospital Authority.
The training programme will address curriculum development, teaching and assessment, adult learning, action learning and professional development. The teachers will develop personal portfolios to track their growth and achievements.
The programme will be run for a year from May 2018, followed by another two-year programme on learning and teaching coupled with continuous learning.
