‘Green Creation for the Future’ Carnival

You or your representatives are cordially invited to cover the ‘Green Creation for the Future’ Carnival to be held this Friday (28 June) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK).

‘Green Creation for the Future’ is a large-scale carnival, organised by the Department of Science and Environmental Studies at EdUHK, with the collaboration of over 40 primary schools and 11 organisations, and funding support from the Quality Education Fund. Originating from a two-year educational project focusing on promoting ‘Green Creative Thinking, Green Creative STEM, and Green Creativity Education, the carnival is a pioneer large-scale project for the full integration of creativity, STEM and environmental education. About 1,500 primary school students, teachers, parents and other members of the public are expected to participate in the event.

The carnival focuses on three innovative themes: (1) ‘Wish-making for the Earth with green umbrellas’, which involves making DIY umbrellas from daily waste materials, inventing new uses for old umbrellas, and throwing a small parachute onto a wishing tree, during which everyone makes a wish for the Earth;  (2) a ‘STEM-based Repair Café’, which features an umbrella doctor, toy doctor, watch doctor, shoe doctor and primary school repair team, providing on-site repair service and teaching, along with a display of a number of 3D printing repair works; and  (3) ‘Robotic Green Creative FUN’, which introduces a variety of pro-environmental robots; for example, the famous Pepper robot and some humanoids will play several garbage picking and classifying, planting, and animal-rescue games with children. There is also a Micro:bit design competition, in which primary students will design and make Micro:bit inventions on the spot, and use them to tell wonderful stories about future cities, homes, theme parks, space exploration, and so on.
