Aerobic Exercise Teaching Manual Improves the Language and Social Skills of ASD Children

You or your representatives are cordially invited to cover a press conference this Saturday (3 February) on the findings of a study using an exercise manual designed specifically for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), prepared by an expert team from The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), in collaboration with The Boy’s & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA).

The study found that most of the parents of children with ASD who followed the manual reported that their children had experienced a significant improvement in physical fitness, the ability to follow instructions, concentration span, and language and social skills. The expert team plans to promote the manual to all non-government organisations, social welfare agencies, kindergartens and primary schools in Hong Kong to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Dr Clare Yu, Assistant Professor of the Health and Physical Education Department at EdUHK, Dr Dorothy Chan, Honorary Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics in the Faculty of Medicine at CUHK, and Dr Simpson Wong, Associate Professor in the Department of Education Studies at HKBU, will share the details of the study. Members from the BGCA and parents of children with ASD will share their experience after having participated in the study. Ms Sylvia Chan May-kuen, Principal of Ma On Shan Ling Liang Primary School, will share her views on the sustainability of this exercise programme in primary school. There will be a demonstration of an exercise class at the press conference. Other details are as follows:
