Mr Nicholas Wong Wins Australia's Peter Porter Poetry Prize

Mr Nicholas Wong Yu-bon, Lecturer I at the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies of Faculty of Humanities at The Education University of Hong Kong, is the first Asian winner of the 2018 Peter Porter Poetry Prize. His winning poem, “101, Taipei”, was chosen from almost 1,000 entries and published in the March issue of Australian Book Review. 

First awarded in 2005, the Peter Porter Poetry Prize is one of Australia’s most prestigious prizes for new poetry. The prize is named after the great Australian poet Peter Porter (1929–2010) and open to all poets writing in English. For more information, please visit 

Mr Wong received the Award for Young Artist (Literary Arts) in the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards 2016, organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. In 2016, he also won the 28th Annual Lambda Literary Award (in the category of Gay Poetry) for his poetry collection Crevasse. He was the first Asian poet to receive this honour.
