QAC Commends EdUHK’s Sub-degree Programmes

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) welcomes the findings of the Audit Report on the University’s sub-degree operations, released by the Quality Assurance Council (QAC) today (26 June). The positive findings affirm the University’s consistent and comprehensive approach to quality assurance, which enables it to meet international standards and the professional requirements for its sub-degree programmes*. Other highlights of the Report are summarised as follows:

  • The University’s sub-degree provision is aligned with the strategic priorities of the host department, the faculty and the University. The University has effective governance structures and procedures for setting and maintaining academic standards.
  • The University systematically collects, reviews, and uses student outcome data and other performance indicators to identify areas for improvement. The University has also created a robust framework for the development and approval of new programmes, involving appropriate checkpoints, consent points and externalities.
  • The programmes utilise external input to monitor and benchmark approaches to both learning and academic standards. Readily accessible physical and e-learning environments are appreciated by students for their role in supporting learning.
  • EdUHK has a comprehensive, robust student assessment policy framework, which is applied systematically to its sub-degree programmes. Students are appreciative of experiential activities and non-local study tours, which they feel enrich their learning.

Welcoming the Report, EdUHK Vice President (Academic) Professor John Lee Chi-kin said, “This very positive report is the best testimony to the University’s unswerving commitment to quality assurance, which applies to different levels of academic programmes. We are grateful that this audit exercise has provided us with an invaluable opportunity to reflect on our strengths and uniqueness, as well as areas for further enhancement.”

QAC commissioned a panel comprising local and overseas experts to undertake the quality audit in October 2018. The full report can be accessed at: www.ugc.edu.hk/big5/qac/about/term/publications/report.html.

*The three sub-degree programmes audited are 1) Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education, 2) Higher Diploma in Kindergarten Education, and 3) Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Supporting Learning and Teaching for Non-Chinese Speaking Children).
