A 13-member delegation from the Department of Chinese Language Studies (CHL) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) conducted fruitful academic exchanges on Chinese language education with faculty members of Princeton University and Columbia University in USA from 25 to 30 April 2019.

Professor Si Chung-mou, Head of CHL, and Dr Liang Yuan, Associate Head of CHL, were invited to deliver paper presentations at the International Conference on Chinese Language Instruction organised by Princeton University, covering topics on International Baccalaureate teaching concepts, teaching Chinese as a second language, and the influence of phonetic association on Chinese character writing.

To further promote a cross-national and cross-regional academic platform for Chinese language education, EdUHK members shared with the scholars of the two universities the latest research articles of CHL, which were published in the International Journal of Chinese Language Education, New Perspectives in Chinese Language Teaching and Culture, and New Perspectives in Chinese Language Teaching and Research.

Through the integrated knowledge and strength of scholars and experts in Greater China, Asia, North America and Europe, the three publications saw constructive academic collaboration between EdUHK, Columbia University and various other overseas institutions to enhance research in Chinese language education and explore the significance of Chinese culture in the world today.

The visit was arranged with the aim of strengthening EdUHK’s academic cooperation and connections with top universities worldwide, as well as facilitating the development of international Chinese teaching at EdUHK.
