The Open Class Observation aims to promote and strengthen professional sharing and exchange of different teaching practices among EdUHK academic and teaching staff members and EdUHK students. A list of available classes for observation will be announced by the end of January.

Tradition and Change: China’s Society and Culture in a Globalized World This 2-hour class constitutes the lecture portion of the course (the tutorial is separate). The first 50 minutes of the class will be in lecture format, followed by a 10 minute break. The following 50 minutes are in a lecture, pair work and class discussion format. There will be the inclusion of short videoclips and news clips to facilitate the class lecture and discussion. This class will cover how tradition and change are unfolding in China’s society and culture domestically. The key role of China’s youth as influencers of this change will be highlighted. Scientific Inquiry, Process Skills and Attitudes* The lesson will conduct hands-on activities to facilitate student’s learning and reflection related to the nature and the teaching of scientific inquiry in classroom setting. Science process skills and attitudes will be highlighted to emphasize the development of skills and attitudes as required by the General Studies curriculum. Food Poisoning Infections of the gastrointestinal tract, causes of food poisoning events, analysis of food-borne diseases based on the types of food, patients’ symptoms and incubation period of possible microbiology will be reviewed. Possible measures in food sterilization will be compared and critically discussed. Collaborative learning and case studies will be applied in learning and teaching. Elements of a Story In this lesson, students are to learn to understand and identify elements of a story, use descriptive language in developing characters and settings, and draft a story plot.
