Rainbow is most grateful to the Institute for providing her with so many opportunities. "In my four years at HKIEd, I have been encouraged to undertake many ventures which have helped me to rediscover myself and develop multiple skills." Her experiences in two English drama productions, spending an entire semester in the ancient city of Durham during the immersion programme, working as a volunteer English teacher in Inner Mongolia - all have enabled Rainbow to further boost her confidence. She refers to her recent trip to Nanjing, as a member of the HKIEd team in the First Inter-varsity English Speaking and Debating Competition, as most valuable. "With the guidance and care we are given at the Institute, I believe all graduates are well equipped as professional teachers to support the education of the next generation."
As an English major student, Rainbow is exempted from the Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers of English (LPATE). She nonetheless opted to take the rigorous LPATE examination last year and passed with a very good result. In addition she obtained top grade in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test. Instead of resting on her laurels, Rainbow plans to further challenge herself by sitting the LPATE examination again to try for an even better result. The high expectations she has of herself and her commitment to lifelong learning motivate Rainbow to work for excellence in all her pursuits.
In late March, Rainbow will set off for Shanghai for the final of the AIA Quest for the Champion Communicator 2005. Joy of Learning wishes her the very best of luck.
