'We want to encourage more sponsors to "invest" in Hong Kong's human capital,' said Samuel Poon. 'We hope EdExchange can offer a new channel for meaningful educational projects, especially those on a smaller scale, to receive funding support from the public. Teachers and students will have to put in the work to make their dreams come true. This initiative encourages accountability and nurtures a positive culture in philanthropy. The market-based mechanism also provides equitable access to all regardless of their background.¡¦

EdExchange is scheduled to be officially launched in April 2005. Prior to that, a pilot run will be undertaken with the help of approximately 25 schools before the scheme is open to all schools in Hong Kong.
