Collaboration Opportunities for Knowledge Development

The following new projects are inviting participants.

Antecedents, Mediator, and Moderators of Teacher Innovation in Schools: Evidence from Hong Kong

Project Investigator: Dr Lu Jiafang

Teacher innovation, the collective introduction and application of novel and useful ideas, can occur in any area of school life and is crucial for schools to effectively adapt to prolonged periods of class suspension. Using a two-phase research design, the project will: 1) document the prevalent innovative practices at primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong during the outbreak of COVID-19 and beyond, and 2) investigate the school conditions that are most conducive to teacher innovation.

New Education Privatisation (NEP) in English Education for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL): A Four-nation Comparative Study

Project Investigator: Dr Choi Taehee

This study explores how third parties contribute to English education in public schools, and how to enhance the quality and equity of education through collaborative partnerships. English skills are crucial in Hong Kong, but students from marginal backgrounds may need extra support. This study consists of policy analysis; involving interviews and observations; and a survey. We are inviting participants to contribute to enhancing education in Hong Kong through exploring and promoting effective partnerships between public schools and third parties.

Ethnic Minorities and Hong Kong's Current Protests: Non-Chinese ‘Hongkonger’ Communities and Their Values

Project Investigator: Dr Miron Bhowmik

This public policy research project aims to understand the attitudes of ethnic minority youth and adults towards the recent social movement in Hong Kong. The project will document a comprehensive understanding of the engagement of ethnic minority youth and adults in the current protests in Hong Kong; systematically highlight the nature and underlying causes of their involvement; and produce a concrete list of policy suggestions from the perspectives of ethnic minority community leaders and individuals that may address the unique situation faced by the ethnic minorities due to an interaction of the current turbulent political situation and their historical disadvantages.

It aims to become a valued partner of education system stakeholders by building and sharing new knowledge in Hong Kong and beyond.
Teacher professionalism—the capacity to make informed educational judgements about what is in the best interests of students and their communities—is influenced by ever-evolving and interactive institutional, social and political contexts.
