Prof. Susan DRAKE Professor, Broke University, St. Catharines, Canada
|
Professor Susan Drake obtained the PhD in curriculum from the University of Toronto, Canada. For the last 20 years, she has taught at Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Her research area is interdisciplinary curriculum and classroom assessment. In particular, she explores how teachers can be innovative in a standards-based environment. How can we integrate the curriculum to satisfy curriculum mandates and still have a relevant curriculum? How can classroom assessment motivate students to learn? How can assessment be the link to creating substantive interdisciplinary curriculum? What is the place of the arts in interdisciplinary work? How do we insure that the arts get their rightful due? Professor Drake provides specific strategies to allow teachers to create engaging lessons and still be accountable. These strategies revolve around the Know, Do, Be framework and can be applied at any grade level to any subject areas. The strategies have been developed in collaboration with practicing teachers. Previous to being at the university, Professor Drake taught at both secondary and elementary levels and with adults. She has worked with practicing educators at the local, regional, national and international levels. She has written 7 books on curriculum integration including Creating standards-based integrated curriculum Second Edition: Aligning curriculum, content, assessment and instruction (2007) published by Corwin Press and Meeting standards with integrated curriculum (2004) with Rebecca Burns published by ASCD. Prof. Weimo ZHU Professor, Department of Kinesiology and Community Health, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign |
Professor Weimo Zhu is a professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Zhu¡¦s primary research interests are in the study and application of new measurement theories, statistical models/methods and technology to the field of Kinesiology. His research works have earned him an international recognition. He has served as the measurement section editor of the Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport for six years and is the associated editor of Journal of Physical Activity and Health. He is also a guest editor of a recent supplement of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise on ¡§Walking for Health.¡¨ He is a fellow of the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education, American College of Medicine and American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). He is a member of the Scientific Board of the President¡¦s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and a member of the FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM Advisory Committee.
