The Symposium is open to participants not only from the countries in the Asia-Pacific region but also from all over the world.

 Scope:

APES’04 aims to cover all sub-areas of EPR/ESR. Contributions dealing with all aspects of recent developments in theory, applications, methodology, instrumentation and experimental techniques related to EPR/ESR, pulsed EPR, high frequency and high field EPR, ENDOR, time resolved EPR, FMR, MRI, CIDEP, and ODMR are invited. In addition to a few plenary lectures there will be four parallel sessions covering the following broad sub-fields:

(1)  Physics and Material Science,

(2)  Biology, Life and medical Sciences,

(3)  Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and

(4)  New Developments and Cross-disciplinary areas.

Each of these will have invited talks, oral, and poster presentations. It is also planned to have a few “topics in focus” sessions such as “EPR in Rare-earth Manganites” and “Non-resonant Microwave Absorption Studies in High Temperature Superconductors” under category (1) above viz. “Physics and Material Science”. Suggestions for such “in focus” sessions in other categories are welcome.

Invited Talks:

Nominations are invited for up to 10 plenary and invited speakers to deliver lectures on current and important topics. Please provide a short abstract of the lecture and a brief CV of the potential speaker. Please send the nominations to the Chairman, LOC, before January 31, 2004.

Other Meetings:

During APES’04 the APES Council Meeting and the Fourth General Meeting of the APES will be held.  Details will be provided at a later stage.

Language:

The official language of the Symposium will be English.

Venue and Accommodation:

The Symposium will be held at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. IISc is a premier Institute and has a beautiful campus. Bangalore, located in the south-central part of India in the state of Karnataka, is known as the Silicon Valley of India and is known for its year-round salubrious climate and also for rich culture and tradition. There are several sightseeing places in and around Bangalore. November is a pleasant month in Bangalore.

Accommodation for the participants will be arranged in several hotels close to the IISc campus and also at Guest Houses within the campus.

Satellite Meeting: International School on EPR Spectroscopy and Free Radical Research (ISEPR-APES’04)

Scope:

The School is aimed to provide a forum for scientists engaged in EPR/ESR spectroscopy for biophysical, chemical, biomedical, and material science research as well as applications. Several expert faculties will deliver state-of-the-art lectures covering theory, instrumentation and applications of EPR spectroscopy involving free radicals. Young investigators are especially encouraged to participate in the School as this would enable them to improve their understanding of the basic principles and acquire a broad view of developing applications in multidisciplinary areas of EPR spectroscopy and free radical research including food science and radiation biology. The School is open to participants from all over world and schedules are such that they can attend the School as well as APES 04.  Lecture materials are proposed to be published in the form of a book.

Language:

The official language of the School will be English.

Venue and Accommodation:

The School will be held at Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Mumbai (BARC). BARC is a premier nuclear  research center of the country with a strong focus on multidisciplinary research and technology. Mumbai, formerly called Bombay, is one of the four major metropolitan cities of India. The city is well connected by road, rail, and air. There are several sightseeing attractions in and around Mumbai including Elephanta cave, Ajanta and  Ellora caves etc. Weather in Mumbai is pleasant in the month of November with daytime temperatures ~ 20 0 C and clear sky.

Accommodation for the participants will be arranged mainly in the Guest House of the Center where the School will be held. In addition, there are many hotels of various classes where accommodation can be arranged on request.
