Admission Requirements

Applicants should normally hold a recognised Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent. Applicants may be required to attend an interview / test.

Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution in a non-English speaking system should normally fulfil one of the following minimum English proficiency requirements which may be subject to adjustment:

• IELTS 6.0 (academic version and the test result should be valid within two years); or
• Grade C or above in GCSE / GCE OL English; or
• a TOEFL score of 80 (internet-based test and the test result should be valid within two years); or
• Band 6 in the Chinese Mainland’s College English Test (CET) (a total score of 430 or above and the test result should be valid within two years); or
• Other equivalent qualifications.

IELTS/TOEFL/CET6 test results should be valid within two years. For example, if the applicants are applying for the 2024/25 academic year, the IELTS / TOEFL / CET6 test must be obtained on or after 1 January 2022.

As for the Area of Focus of English for Academic Purposes, the minimum English proficiency requirements are as follows:

• IELTS 6.5 with no subtest lower than 6.0 (academic version and the test result should be valid within two years); or
• a TOEFL score of 90 (internet-based test and the test result should be valid within two years) ; or
• Other equivalent qualifications.

Individual Area of Focus may have different entrance requirements, please refer to individual Area of Focus for details.

Students who have relevant postgraduate qualifications may be eligible to apply for credit transfer from some courses.

The University does not accept paper applications. Please read through the important notes contained in the “Online Application – Guided Tour” and visit the relevant website(s) before starting the online application process.

Application fee for local applicants and non-local applicants is HK$150 and HK$300 respectively which is non-refundable and non-transferable unless the programme in question is cancelled by the University. Upon successful submission of application, applicants will receive an application acknowledgement by email.

Applicants should upload their academic documents, language test result(s), and other supporting documents direct on http://www.eduhk.hk/acadprog/online/:

● Graduation certificate(s) and official transcript(s) of Post-Secondary Qualifications;

● Applicants with degrees awarded by overseas universities may be required to provide a “Report for Qualifications Assessment” issued by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) in order to support their applications;

● Applicants who obtained degrees from universities in Mainland China are required to provide both Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree Certificate（學士 ／碩士學位證書） and Bachelor’s / Master’s Graduation Certificate（本科 ／ 碩士畢業證書）. Also, an Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate（教育部學 歷證書電子註冊備案表）issued by the CHSI（學信網） https://www.chsi.com.cn/xlcx/bgcx.jsp is needed;

● If an applicant is a current final year student of a degree or postgraduate programme, please upload a copy of the current year results when it is available.

● Official score report(s) of language test results (e.g. IELTS / TOEFL / GCSE / GCE / CET6* / PSC / HSK / LPAT, etc); and

● Other documents (e.g. Study Statement, Referee’s Report, etc), if applicable

If an applicant is a graduate of the HKIEd / EdUHK in 1995 or after, he/she does not need to submit any copies of academic transcript(s) and certificate(s) obtained at the University. Applicant is, however, required to authorise the University to extract and use his/her records of studies at the University to process the application.

The application will remain incomplete until we receive all the necessary supporting materials. Due to system limitations, the maximum capacity of the upload files is 17MB in total whereas the maximum size for each file is 4MB.

Please do not send any original documents to the University in any circumstances as the University will not be responsible for any documents mislaid. However, original documents of the qualifications stated in the application must be presented for verification at or before registration. Failure to do so shall lead to disqualification of the application and any offer made will be rescinded.

Applicants who have attended international institutions whose transcripts and/or certificates are in a language other than Chinese or English must submit those transcripts and/or certificates with certified English translations.

Submitted documents will not be returned. All supporting documents of unsuccessful applications will be destroyed at the end of the admission exercise.

Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend admission interviews / tests. An applicant who has not been invited to an interview shall not assume that he/she is not being considered for admission.

Applicants will be informed of their application status, such as application acknowledgement, interview arrangements, etc., via their registered e-mail.  

Successful applicants will receive individual notifications email. Applicants who wish to accept the admission offer will be required to indicate their acceptance of the offer directly through the Online Application System (http://www.eduhk.hk/acadprog/online/). Applicants who have not been offered admission before the commencement of the programme may assume their applications unsuccessful. No individual notifications will be sent to unsuccessful or waitlisted applicants.

Credit transfer may be granted to students in recognition of their prior learning experiences.

Students may submit an application from the date of programme registration till the first two weeks of each semester in each academic year. For courses on offer in the summer semester (if any), applications should be submitted one week before the commencement of the semester. Late applications will only be considered on condition that there was enough time to complete the application process (normally 4 weeks) before the end of the courses concerned.

Please read the Policy and the Guidelines on Credit Transfer listed on Registry’s website (https://www.eduhk.hk/re/) and consult your Programme Leader / Subject Coordinator before submitting an application.

Students who are enrolled in any full-time award bearing programmes (lasting for one year or longer) of the University are not permitted to simultaneously register for another qualification at this University or a post-secondary qualification at another institution except with prior approval of the University. Violation of this regulation may lead to discontinuation of studies from the University.

In accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, applicants have the right of access to and correction of the information contained in their application, and the right to request a copy of such data.
