Section 1 – Programme Structure

Section 2 – Research Project

a) Am I eligible to take Research Project?
Students, based on their needs and interests, can opt for Research Project instead of taking three Specialist (elective) Courses. The Research Project comprises supervised work on an agreed topic with the research project supervisor.

Section 3 – Course Registration and other Course-related Issues

a) What are the steps for online course registration (CR)?
Students will normally be informed of the exact online CR period two to three months prior to the start of the next semester.
Students are advised to familiarise themselves with online CR procedures before they perform CR. A CR Quick Guide and other CR-related information are available at The Portal (http://portal.eduhk.hk - under “Course Reg Links”). - b) Why are there two rounds of online course registration? (copy)

Section 5 – Application for Deferment of Studies / Extension of Study Period / Leave of Absence / Change of Area of Focus, Mode of Study or Programme

a) How can I apply for deferment of studies?
Students can apply for deferment of studies if there is a genuine need. The application should be made before the commencement of each semester of an academic year. The deferment period is included in the maximum period of study.
To apply for deferment of studies, please submit the following documents to the Information Centre in-person or by post (Location: Room A-G/F-11, Cho Kwai Chee Foundation Building, The Education University of Hong Kong, 10 Lo Ping Road, Tai Po, New Territories, Hong Kong):
- Completed Application Form “Application for Deferment of Studies”. Please note that Section I to IV should have been completed by the applicant at the time of submission; and
- Personal Statement (i.e., a statement providing the reason(s) for the application).
Please note that your application is subject to the approval of the MEd Programme Committee, and the University reserves the right for final decision. You will be notified by the Registry on the result of your application. If your application is approved, you are required to pay a continuation fee on or before the date as specified by the Registry.

Section 6 – Credit Transfer

a) What is the credit transfer policy of the Master of Education programme?
Students who have relevant postgraduate qualifications may apply for credit transfer.

Section 7 – Student Support

a) Can I participate in the activities / programmes organized by the Student Affairs Office?
To support postgraduate students’ studies at the University and to enrich their learning in non-formal curriculum, the Student Affairs Office (SAO) offers a wide range of activities and programmes. As long as the programme length of these activities/ programmes can be fitted into the length of students’ studies, postgraduate students can take part in any of the programmes which they are able to finish during their courses of studies.

Section 8 – Tuition Fees

a) How and when will I know my tuition fee payment?
Tuition fee has to be paid twice in an academic year: the first semester by October and the second semester by January / February.
An e-billing notice will be issued by Finance Office via e-mail after the Add/Drop Period. You can view your consolidated outstanding tuition fee payment in The Portal (http://portal.eduhk.hk - e-SIS - Student Services - Student Account - Account Summary). - b) How does tuition fee be charged? Section 9 – Visa Related Issues (for non-local students)

a) If I could not complete the programme within one year and have to extend my student visa, what should I do?
Non-local students who cannot complete the programme within one year should approach the Graduate School at least three months before the expiry date of their student visa. Students have to complete the application form for extension of study period and submit to the Graduate School together with (1) a photocopy of passport/travel pass page(s) showing the personal particulars, and (2) a photocopy of passport/travel pass page(s) indicating the current visa stamp/landing slip.
