Master of Education Entrance Scholarship 2020/21

 

The Entrance Scholarship for Master of Education (The Scholarship) is established to encourage teachers’ pursuit of higher qualifications as well as to enhance their professionalism.  

1.    Eligibility Criteria

The Scholarship is offered to selected local full-time serving teachers who fulfill the following criteria:

(i)        a local applicant#;

(ii)      meet the admission requirements of the Master of Education (MEd) programme/respective Area of Focus (if any);

(iii)    have been teaching in local schools (including pre-primary institutions, primary, secondary, special schools and higher education institutions) for at least one year;

(iv)  have submitted an application for MEd programme September 2020 intake via EdUHK’s Online Application System and accepted the admission offer of the MEd programme;

(v)      register to the MEd programme offered by The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) in September 2020 intake;

* The MEd Entrance Scholarship will be withdrawn if he/she is the recipient of the Scholarship for Teachers (Pursuit of Master's degree Programmes (2020/21))

2.    Application Procedures

If you would like to apply for the Scholarship, please write to us via email (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) on or before 17 June 2020 (Wednesday) and (i) indicate your intention to apply for the Scholarship; (ii) attach the following documents in the email:

(a)    completed Personal Statement;

(b)  at least 1 community service letter(s) or recommendation letter(s) completed either by the Principal of the applicant’s serving school / academic staff from a university; and

(c)    proof of your teaching in local schools for at least one year.


3.    Personal Statement

The Personal Statement should be within 800 to 2,000 words and should be written in English, indicating (a) your motivation to undertake the MEd study in your chosen Area of Focus; (b) details of your contribution to school(s) and the education community; (c) the attributes that you possesses as a good teacher, supported by examples; (d) your performance in learning and teaching, student development, school development, and professional relationships and services; and (e) the particular professional inputs that you could make to the programme.

 

Applicants who fulfilled the abovementioned requirements will be considered for the MEd Entrance Scholarship.

 

4.      Selection Criteria

·                Applicants’ attribute of a teacher;

·                Performance in and/or contribution to the serving school;

·                Contribution to the education community;

·                Academic performance; and

·                Other criteria deemed appropriate

 

An amount of HK$10,000 will be awarded to each awardee.

 

A formal email and/or letter notification of the award result will be issued to the Scholarship awardee.

 

Incomplete application will NOT be considered.

 

The EdUHK’s decisions in respect of the award of the Scholarship will be final.

Scholarship for Teachers (Pursuit of Master's Degree Programmes) (2020/21)

The Scholarship for Teachers (Pursuit of Master's Degree Programmes) launched by the Education Bureau is now inviting applications.  This scholarship aims to recognize achievements of high-performing teachers and to encourage teachers' pursuit of higher qualifications as well as to enhance their professionalism. Application is open to full-time regular teachers who

(a) are permanent residents of Hong Kong;  

(b) have been serving as regular teachers* in local day schools (including primary, secondary and special schools) offering a formal curriculum at the time of application;

(c) have no less than five years (as at 31 August 2019) of full-time teaching experience# in the abovementioned schools offering a formal curriculum;

(d) have not been awarded this Scholarship before; and

(e) have enrolled to start, in the following school year (2020/21), a local part-time master's degree programme specialising in one of the following areas:

      (i) STEM Education; (ii) Information Technology in Education; (iii) Language Education (Chinese or English); (iv) Chinese History and History;

      (v) Chinese Culture; (vi) Values Education; (vii) Educational Leadership;

      (viiI) Catering for Learner Diversity (including Special Educational Needs, Gifted Education and Inclusive Education); 

    (ix) Guidance and Counselling (including Career Guidance, Counselling and Life Education); 

       (x) Parent Education and Home-school Co-operation

*In the context of Direct Subsidy Scheme schools and private schools, “regular teachers” refers to regular members of the teaching staff in school. Teachers employed under the Native-speaking English Teacher Scheme in public sector are not included.

# Applicants’ experience of secondment to Education Bureau is also counted.

 

Teachers who apply for "the Scholarship for Teachers" have to be enrolled in a relevant master's degree programme offered by a local higher education institution in the 2020/21 school year. Master of Education programme with the following fields of study is also included in the list of the relevant study programmes for the Scholarship for Teachers: 

       (a)  Education and Developmental Psychology

       (b)  English for Academic Purposes

       (c)  Life and Values Education

       (d)  Mathematics, Technology, Science and Environment

       (e)  Special Needs, Giftedness and Counselling

(f)  Educational Management and Leadership

The quota for “the Scholarship for Teachers” (2020/21) is 20. A total amount of HK$80,000 will be awarded to each awardee.

The Scholarship is open for application from 18 May to 12 June 2020.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships – Graduate Scholarship at Harvard University
