Second Majors & Minors Brochure 2022-23

Students of 4-/5-year full-time undergraduate programmes may be permitted to enroll in a Second Major, subject to • Programme specific requirements; and • GPA requirement of 3.00 or above in the first year of study. The minimum credit requirement for the Second Majors offered by FHM is 36. Students who take English Language as Second Major will have in-depth knowledge of English as a language. They will advance their knowledge in the disciplines of linguistics, literature and applied English studies, in areas such as Phonetics and Phonology, Lexis, Morphology and Semantics, Grammar, Written and Spoken Discourse, Literature and Language Arts, Psycholinguistics, and Sociolinguistics. Students who take Chinese Language as a Second Major will be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the Chinese Language and advance their knowledge in the disciplines of linguistics, literature and culture. Pre-requisite Requirements and Other Conditions for Declaring a Second Major: • Level 3 or above in Chinese Language in HKDSE, or equivalent; • Year 1 GPA: 3.00 or above; and • Applicants may be invited for an interview.
