Forum on Translation Studies. In collaboration with the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong & Macau, the department and Centre for Popular Culture in the Humanities presented the University Francophone Film Festival. Four selected films were shown on HKIEd campus on Wednesday nights in March 2016. Featuring couples struggling with socio-cultural differences and warfare, a cat that is eager to talk about religion and homeless wanderers in the French capital, they present four diverse visions from the francophone region. To enhance the motivation of tertiary students in the study of translation and to raise their translation levels, a Chinese-English translation competition was held in Semester 2, targeting all undergraduate students in Hong Kong. The competition was divided into two stages. In the first stage, participants translated a source text of about 300 words from Chinese into English. The top 10 entrants entered the final contest held on HKIEd campus on 15 April 2016. In addition to students from HKIEd, the contest received a number of entries from students from other institutions in Hong Kong.
