PSY6067 Positive Education

Positive education is an approach that integrates evidence-based means of promoting character, life skills, and well-being with traditional education principles for academic learning. This course introduces the major theoretical perspectives for understanding how to promote optimal human functioning in the context of positive education. Some major dimensions, such as the PERMA model and the Values in Action (VIA) classification, are discussed. This course also covers some case studies using positive education to improve the level of well-being at an individual level and at a whole school level.Attention will also be given to the appropriate application of theories and findings drawn from theWest within the East Asian context. The course will include a variety of learning and teaching activities including lectures, case studies, and group discussions to ensure a coherent grasp of the theoretical and applied features of positive education.
