Advanced Studies I - Acquired Language Disorders and Dysphagia

Participants will learn advanced issues in education and speech, language, hearing, literacy, learning communication and swallowing disorders. Topics will include but not limited to the following:

• Assessment and treatment approaches of swallowing difficulties with neurogenic bases and those secondary to oro-cranial-facial disorders;
• Assessment and treatment approaches of disorders of speech motor programming (apraxia of speech) and speech motor execution (dysarthria) resulting from damage to the primary sensory, motor, and/or sensorimotor pathways in the central and/or peripheral nervous systems at auditory-perceptual, acoustic and physiological levels;
• Advanced studies on the disorders of language, communication, perception, cognition, and behavior associated with brain injuries/dysfunctions including cerebral vascular accidents, traumatic brain injury, dementia and the neuroanatomical and neurophysiological bases, and the differential diagnosis and intervention techniques of acute and chronic stages of these brain-based disorders.
