Dr Maxwell Ho wins outstanding doctoral research award in educational leadership and strategy

2020-10-19

Dr Maxwell Ho has won the 2020 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Award (ODRA) in Educational Leadership and Strategy. The award recognises his research for its potential to advance both research and practice.

Dr Ho’s study explores the impact of teachers’ entrepreneurial behaviour in Hong Kong schools. This means that a teacher demonstrates entrepreneurial competencies at school, and justifies the positive impacts entrepreneurial teachers have on teachers, students, school branding as well as school development.

This study promotes the professional development of teachers with an evaluation tool for assessing the key contribution made by such entrepreneurial teachers. It has also served as the basis for peer-reviewed journal articles and professional development programmes for school leaders, including a project run by the Asia Pacific Centre for Leadership and Change.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my supervisors, Dr Darren Bryant and Dr Lu Jiafang, for their continuous support of my study and related research, and for their generosity and motivation,” said Dr Ho. “I hope that this study serves to spearhead future research and professional development in teacher entrepreneurialism.”

The ODRA in Educational Leadership and Strategy is given to the best dissertation in the field. As an international award, the ODRA is highly competitive with the winner selected by the editorial board of the Journal of Educational Administration, the oldest journal in educational leadership and management.

Dr Ho’s award illustrates FEHD’s dedication to supporting the professional development of teachers, principals, and educators in Hong Kong. By creating a supportive environment, we seek to nurture new thinking and take what we do to the NEXT LEVEL.
