Kickstart your learning journey with these online tools

Due to the latest developments of COVID-19 in Hong Kong, all University programmes will use online learning and teaching for Semester 1 of 2020/21.  

Here are some online tools that could enhance our students’ online learning experience:

Course registration 

  • e-SIS allows our students to register for courses online and check their personal timetable. 

Classes 

  • Moodle is a Learning Management System where students can download their lecture notes and participate in online discussions.  
  • Zoom provides video communications servicesWith Zoom students can join virtual classrooms and enjoy real-time interactions with teachers and peers. Other interactive applications such as Kahoot, Mentimeter, Nearpod may be used in classes.

The Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC) will offer workshops about how to get started with Moodle and Zoom. For further details, please visit LTTC website at www.lttc.eduhk.hk 

Projects and assignments

  • EdUHK Library subscribes to over 1.9 million e-books and provides over 90,000 e-journals. Students can make use of this collection for their assignments. 
  • Sway, Google Sites and Mahara can help our students create their ePortfolios. LTTC has also developed online user guides for the tools.  

Essay submissions 

  • Turnitin is an online plagiarism service to check the originality of submitted papers. Students may be required to submit their essays in Turnitin. 

Free to use 

  • Microsoft Office 365 includes applications like Outlook, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Skype and 1TB of free cloud storage etc. 
  • G Suite for Education includes Google Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive and Google Docs etc. 

Students will hear from us via email throughout this semester, so keep checking your student email and pay attention to announcements. They should maintain good communication with lecturers and be actively involved in learning.
